About

Ruth Birdt

Ruth Birdt is an English representational artist based in Santa Barbara, California.

Her formal art training began at The Inchbald School of Architecture and Design, London, followed by several London community art colleges and The Art Students League of NY, where she spent 10 years.

At ‘The League’, she studied under the acclaimed masters - Gregg Kreutz, Leonid Gervitz, Sharon Sprung, Dan Gheno and Bob Cenedella - portraiture (both human and animal), still life, landscape and abstraction in oils, watercolor and pastels.

Her interest lies in contemporary and abstract realism, with a focus on color, drama and movement. She concentrates on composition and the interplay of her subject matter, much like choreography - another interest.

She is a passionate animal advocate, volunteering and fostering for animal shelters and has built a fast growing animal portrait following in pastels, with worldwide commissions.

Birdt has exhibited at The Art Students League, the Manhattan Borough President’s Office, the NY Annual Benefit for the Homeless and numerous local exhibitions.

She is a ‘Life Member’ of the Art Students League and a member of Oil Painters of America, The Santa Barbara Arts Association and the Santa Barbara Abstract Art Collective.

Her works can be found in collections in Denmark, Hong Kong, Mexico, Thailand, the UK and the USA.
